San Francisco International Airport
Harvey Milk Terminal 1 Redevelopment

The Terminal 1 Redevelopment project at SFO set out to modernize this aging facility originally known as the South Terminal. The multi-phase renovation project now offers a spacious two-level terminal building with a new glass façade inviting passengers into its modern ticketing lobby and post-security connections to the adjacent International Terminal A. The new terminal design, state-of-the-art passenger facilities, and added amenities redefine what tomorrow’s travel experience will be.

Fish Construction provided all new ticketing lobby check-in counters and podiums, curbside counters, bag drop counters, and post-security podiums in the new corridor connecting passengers directly to the International Terminal. Our company also supplied gate counters and backscreens, baggage service office millwork, repack stations, and other airport furnishings. Ergonomic features were incorporated into the millwork design, utilizing multi-positioning monitors and keyboards, and self-loading baggage belts. Phenolic materials for the counters were selected for their environmentally conscious properties.

Upon completion of this modernization project phase, the airport was the first in the world to receive the Platinum LEEDv4 certification. This version raises the bar for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance structures. SFO also was awarded the Fitwel Best in Building Health 2021 for achieving the highest rating for health and wellness. Both awards showcase the airport’s commitment to employee and passenger well-being through environmentally friendly design solutions and focus on sustainability criteria. FCI is proud to have participated in this terminal project that garnered such highly-acclaimed achievement.

FCI continues to be involved in this multi-phase project, as spaces are expanded and renovated.
